The criteria measured are: exclusive (ie. not available on systems I already own) games I'm interested in buying, factors of system longevity, and quality guidelines. If all guidelines are met, then a purchase is considered. The practical price point limit is where my budget normally allows for investment in a system; if a system exceeds this, then additional consideration will be given, and a purchase is less likely. New Console Game Minimums: At sub-$200 = 4 games minimum for purchase At $200 to sub-$300 = 5 games minimum for purchase At $300 to sub-$400 = 6 games minimum for purchase At $400 to sub-$500 = 8 games minimum for purchase At $500 to sub-$600 = 11 games minimum for purchase At $600 or more = 15 games minimum for purchase Longevity Factors: Dominant Console: -1 game required Not Dominant Console: +1 game required Very Reliable Hardware: -1 game required Unreliable Hardware: +1 game required Backwards Compatibility: -1 console quality requirement rank No Backwards Compatibility: +1 console quality requirement rank DVD Playback Functionality: -1 console quality requirement rank Games Cost More than Average: +2 console quality requirement ranks Games cost Less than Average: -1 console quality requirement rank Quality Guidelines: At sub-$200: Console quality is of low impact At $200 to sub-$300: Console quality is of normal impact At $300 to sub-$400: Console quality is important At $400 to sub-$500: Console quality is very important At $500 to sub-$600: Console quality is central At $600 or more: Console must be absolutely perfect Practical Price Point Limit: $300 NOTE 1: "Dominant Console" is defined as a system which maintains highest market share of all comparative products for at least 6 months straight. Any console which does not meet this criteria after this timespan is considered "Not Dominant". Before this, none of the systems are considered dominant. At least two systems must be available before dominance can be measured. NOTE 2: Console quality is the overall quality of the hardware and software of interest. This primarily is focused on the fluidity of control and gameplay. Load times, jerky controls, and lag all detract from a console's quality, while fast loading, natural-feeling controls, and high framerates increase it. Hardware specifications have only minimal impact on this score. The ranges are: no, minimal, low, normal, important, very important, central, and complete impact. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Leader Board [LEADERBOARD] =-=-= Appeal Play Win G# Peripherals NES : 71.4, 67.9, 46.4, 28, 11 SNES: 100.0, 100.0, 100.0, 1, 1 Wii : 100.0, 100.0, 62.7, 49, 14 GBC : 100.0, 100.0, 87.5, 8, 3 GBA : 87.5, 100.0, 81.3, 16, 17 NDS : 100.0, 100.0, 89.5, 19, 9 PS1 : 72.0, 92.0, 76.0, 25, 9 PS2 : 90.7, 95.4, 46.5, 43, 10 PSP : 93.8, 100.0, 58.8, 17, 13 PC : 86.7, 94.7, 82.7, 75, 15 Score Breakdown 1st=10pt 2nd= 9pt 3rd= 8pt 4th= 7pt 5th= 6pt 6th= 5pt 7th= 4pt 8th= 3pt 9th= 2pt 10th= 1pt Max Score: 50 Ranking Table Games Appeal Play Win Peripherals 1st PC SNES SNES SNES GBA --- Wii Wii --- --- --- GBC GBC --- --- --- NDS GBA --- --- --- PSP NDS --- --- --- --- PSP --- --- 2nd Wii PS2 PS2 NDS PC 3rd PS2 GBA PC GBC Wii 4th NES PC PS1 PC PSP 5th PS1 PS1 NES GBA NES 6th NDS NES --- PS1 PS2 7th PSP --- --- Wii PS1 --- --- --- --- NDS 8th GBA --- --- PSP GBC 9th GBC --- --- PS2 SNES 10th SNES --- --- NES --- Overall Scores System Score 1st PC 41 1st Wii 41 2nd GBA 39 3rd NDS 37 4th GBC 33 4th PSP 33 4th PS2 33 4th SNES 33 5th PS1 28 6th NES 25 NOTE: Numeric scores do not indicate personal opinion of the systems.
