When can I get rid of these things? A. As soon as you get your ship, you can sail to Queen Minnie's Castle. Your ship will start out initially facing her castle, so you can just sail straight to it. Q. Is it worth it to collect and trade the medals? A. Very much so, as you can get some of the rarest alchemy ingredients and equipment in the game this way. Q. How do I get these medals? The chests are all locked! A. Make a Thief's Key with the alchemy pot (Iron Nail + Bronze Knife). Later, you'll find the Magic Key in a Thief's Key chest, and that will let you unlock the other locked chests. Or if you're unbelievably patient, you can wait until you get the Ultimate Key late in the game. Q. If I trade in enough medals for two or more prizes, will I get them all? A. Yep! No matter how long you put it off, you will get each prize on the list in sequence once you've turned in enough medals. There's no way to "miss" any of them. Q. Are there missable medals? A. Yes, two of them. They are noted as such on the checklist. Very fortunately, you cannot lose out on getting all of the prizes, as there are 115 medals (and you only need 110 to get every reward). How come I get so few skill points at level up? A. Because that's how the game's set up. You will always get a fixed number of skill points at any given level up, so there's no point in resetting repeatedly to try to get more. Each character gets exactly 350 SP by level 99, enough to master 3 and a half skillsets each. Q. What are the best skills to learn? A. That's mostly a matter of opinion. For sheer power, focus on Courage, Spears, and Swords for the hero; Axes, Humanity, and Sickles for Yangus; Sex Appeal, Staves, and Fisticuffs for Jessica; and Swords, Charisma, and Staves for Angelo. It's in your best interest to peruse the lists of what skills each ability class learns, and pick whatever works best for your fighting style. Or you can check my own powerhouse team outline, which is optimized for metal hunting early on, and damage dealing later on. Q. Where can I find more seeds of skill? A. They're exceptionally rare. Until the bonus dungeon, you won't be able to collect them from enemies at all, and you won't be able to collect them en masse until you're strong enough to handle the bonus dungeon boss's ultimate form. Q. How many seeds of skill do I need to max all skills? A. You need 150 additional SP per character, and each seed gives 5 SP. This means 30 seeds per character, 120 total seeds, to master all skills. Q. How come I can't raise (skill) any higher? A. There's a limit to how much you can raise skills, based on your current level. The limit goes up by 2 by each level, and starts at 27. The earliest you can have a skillset mastered (ie. 100 skill points allocated) is level 38. Q. How does Tension work, exactly? A. Tension's numbers are misleading, for the most part; they simply tell you which level of tension you're at (low/5, medium/20, high/50, or super-high/100). At low tension, your attack effectiveness is boosted by 75%, and buff/weaken spells have twice as much effect. At medium tension, you get 200% damage effect, and buff/weaken spells have four times their usual effect. At high tension, damage is boosted by 500%, and buff/weaken spells have eight times their usual effect. At super-high tension, damage done is 600% greater than normal, and buff/weaken spells do a whopping sixteen times more than they do normally. Q. What cancels tension boosts? A. Tension is set to 0 when you use any skill, when you cast any spell besides Fullheal, Omniheal, Zing, Kazing, or any status healing spell, when you defend, when you're hit by a status ailment, when you lose a turn, when you're incapacitated, and when you take more than 75% of your HP in damage from a single attack. You cannot boost tension when you're afflicted by any status condition save Surround (aka. blinded). Q. Is it true that you can't steal from an enemy if Steal Sickle or Stainless Steal Sickle kills them in the process? A. No, that's an old rumor that's been proven wrong. The stealing moves can always work, as long as they hit the target. Spell/Skill Breakdowns ===-- This section explains what each spell and skill is, and who learns it when or how. How do I get the Alchemy Pot? A. After the fight with Khalamari, go down and talk to Trode on-board the ferry. This is required to advance the plot, so you can't miss getting the Alchemy Pot. Q. When will the Alchemy Pot get upgraded? A. After you complete the events in and around Pickham. Again, you cannot miss this. Just spend two nights sleeping. Q. How do I get the ultimate Alchemy Pot? A. You cannot get it until you've won the game. It's one of the prizes you can pick as a reward for beating an optional boss. Don't worry if you forget to pick it when the chance arises, you can get all of the items offered from this boss. Q. How do you use this thing? A. You stick in ingredients and see what you get. If they spit right out, you've done an invalid recipe, and nothing is lost. Otherwise, the pot will cook for a while, then ding when it's done and you can collect a new item. Note that you cannot access the Alchemy Pot in dungeons. Q. If I cancel in mid-Alchemy, will I lose my items? A. Nope! Alchemy is a loss-free prospect, unless you count combining items to get worse items. There's even a trick to get multiple versions of normally rare items like Yggdrasil leaves. Q. How can I use the Alchemy Pot to get more rare items? A. This only works for rare items that you can buy only one of at a time, such as Yggdrasil leaves. Buy one, then start making something with it in the Alchemy Pot. Buy another, then cancel the recipe. You'll have two of the rare item that you can normally only have one of at a time. Q. How long does it take for an item to finish? A. It's not time, but distance that counts. You need to walk a certain amount before a recipe will complete. Can I make a profit with Alchemy? A. Yes, actually. Under each recipe is listed the value of the item made, and the overall cost to gather its components. Any item with a value higher than overall cost is the way to go if you want to make money from Alchemy. There's no real strategy involved, only blind luck. Some slot machines are said to have better odds than others, but there's no solid way to prove this. Roulette [CROULETTE] ---== This game can only be played at Baccarat, and the maximum bet for a given betting area is 500 tokens. Roulette is a game of strategy, for the most part. There is one key concept to remember: keep your bets in a given third of the bet table. If you spread your bets too thin, your pay-off won't be great enough to outweigh your losses. There are a few methods available to you: 1. Minimum-token bet (less than 1500 tokens): Place your tokens on a full third-of-the-table betting area (the three arrows pointing up above Evens/Odds and Red/Blue). 2. Low-token bet (1500-2500 tokens): Max out the three straight-up columns of a given third of a table. If you have 2000 tokens, also put 500 tokens on the third-of-the-table betting area for that triad. 3. Mid-token bet (2500-5500 tokens): Add tokens for the two-column bets as well. Once you get past 3000 tokens, start adding tokens to the four-square token bet areas as well. 4. High-token bets (5500-15500 tokens): Fill in more of the between-tiles corner token spots. Once you start getting enough tokens to do so, you can put bets on the actual numbers themselves, too. Fan out from the middle, adding tokens to the four corner numbers only once you can. 5. Max-token bets (15500+ tokens): Dominate an entire third of the board: put 500 tokens in every available spot.
